About
XOAN is a four-piece alternative rock band formed in 2018 in Athens, Greece. Made up of highly active members of the Greek music scene with long musical backgrounds, they spent years rehearsing and playing live across Athens' local stages before releasing their debut.
Their debut record 'Greenhorn' was released in 2020 — a raw, coming-of-age record that established them in the Greek alternative scene. Produced by Alex Bolpasis, it delivered eight vibrant tracks driven by vulnerable yet visceral songwriting.
In 2025, XOAN returned with 'Tensions' — a bold step forward. Produced and mixed by Marios Adamopoulos, the album spans a wide emotional and sonic spectrum, from slacker rock with autotune to fast punk tempos, from bright melodic choruses to heavy atmospheric outbursts. Each track exists in its own universe, exploring internal conflicts, anxiety, fading friendships, and the pressure of everyday life.
Rooted in the golden age of the 90s and early 00s — Nirvana-era alternative, post-grunge, emo, indie rock — XOAN blend those influences with a distinctly modern sensibility. They switch between English and Greek in their songwriting, signaling both international ambition and deep local roots. Their name, pronounced /ˈzoʊən/, has become part of their distinctive identity.
